Backchannel Discussions

-Discussion having at the same time. 

-Great for students who are quiet and may not participate in other ways.

-Google Jockey and a Backchannel Moderator are 2 students.

-Group notetaking

-Doesn't use it every day - 4 to 5 times a month they use it

-Chatzy $10 for a year without ads - http://www.chatzy.com/492808953110, and lets you password protect

-Etiquette - @ to a particular person, keep sidebar conversations out, be yourself not someone else, do drop a lot of links.

-every now and then the backchannel moderator will summarize what is happening in the backchannel.

General Notes

-take in little chunks

-take 15 minutes of R&D research and development

-have a big 3 that you will work on the next time you sit down at the computer - sets a timer so doesn't go over it.

-greatest moments in classroom is a result of those 15 minutes of R&D

-we have to give ourselves that time

-"contact is king" no longer content

-can use cellphones for polling

-can use ipods to have music in the background ("music is their quiet")

-online videos are great!
